MISSION CAPSULES

TAIWAN

Our gifts to Presbyterians sharing support Louse Gamble as she teaches English to students at Tam Kang High School, a private Christian school in Tamsui, Taiwan. Tam Kang seeks to present a strong Christian image to all of its students. It has been developing a strong English language program, and many of the senior students can converse easily in English. Louise teaches conversation classes to several grades, as well as some Biblical courses to senior classes and teachers at the school. She writes, "My Bible classes for teachers are quite popular. Participants have doubled this semester. Curiosity is growing, and I am always surprised and stimulated and challenged by the questions of those who haven’t read the Bible."

Building a Place Apart: Crieff Hills Community

CRIEFF HILLS COMMUNITY, PUSLINCH, ON --  Crieff Hills Community is building for the future. In order to meet the demand for more and larger space for personal retreats, day visitors, group gatherings and to provide greater safety with barrier free accessibility for people with limited or restricted mobility, a new 'Retreat House' will be constructed and the existing Conference Hall will be significantly enhanced. Over 6,000 guests annually will benefit from the redevelopment at Crieff Hills.
Crieff Hills Community is a Retreat and Conference Centre committed to serving the needs of individuals and groups in offering cost-effective facilities and on-site programs that equip people for service, foster discovery and develop leadership and community building skills.
A wide variety of people come to Crieff Hills. Its close proximity to major transportation routes makes it an attractive place to travel to. In total, approximately 4,000 day guests and 9,000 overnight guests, for an average of two nights, enjoy Crieff Hill's active hospitality and beauty each year.
Crieff Hills is located on 250 acres of land west of Crieff, Ontario, a small village about 60 km west of Toronto, 25 km north of Hamilton, 15 km east of Kitchener-Waterloo and 15 km south of Guelph. The land was gifted to The Presbyterian Church in Canada in 1950 by Colonel John Bayne Maclean, the founder of "Maclean's" magazine. Col. Mclean was the son of the first Presbyterian minister at Knox Presbyterian Church, Crieff.
